Standards & Assessment Day
Parent Vue grades are 100% up to date. If your student did not turn in the Embedded Assessment #1: Personal essay, their grade has dropped dramatically. These essays were due November 4th. We have one week until the end of the trimester, so it must be turned in this week in order for it to count on their report card. Lesson plans for the week are attached below.
I have started scoring student's Embedded Assessment 1 essay and hope to give feedback by the beginning of next week. We began "unpacking" Embedded Assessment #2 about creating an original myth. Our lesson plans in Springboard are posted down below.
This week is a big week for our LA classes! Students have been working for several weeks on how to write a personal narrative. During that time, students have drafted, learned techniques to improve their writing, and done revision in writing groups. This week is where this all pays off or not! Students will be writing a final draft for benchmark and graded scoring using the Springboard scoring guide on page 42 of their workbooks. This published draft is worth 300 points which is a little less than half of their total points to this date. It's time to show what you know!
This week we will be revising the middle and ending of our personal narratives. See the daily lesson plans attached below. Many students were on field trips Monday, so the weekly plan has been pushed back day to accomodate.
This week we will be focusing on Activity 1.7: Personal Narrative Essay Writing. Students should have their essays finished for editing in writing groups either Thursday or Friday.
Students were given the opportunity to self-assess their progress last Friday in their Springboard workbook and LA Notebook. The assignment was worth a maximum of 200 points. Check Parent View to make sure your student has turned this in before I submit progress report information on Thursday.
This week's lesson plans look a lot like last week. Some of the lessons can take up to three instructional periods to complete. We will do a Springboard and writer's notebook self-assessment on Friday to check formative progress towards our goal of writing a personal narrative about a choice.
Our classroom lesson plans for the week are attached below. Most likely we will only get through lesson 1.4 this week in Springboard.
Weeek of 9/19
This week we will begin diving into Unit 1, The Choices We Make, in Springboard. See my attached lesson plan for the week.
Baseline Writing Assessment Week 9/12
Students will be completing an "in class" baseline writing assessment this week. Students have the assignment in their possession, but it is not a homework activity. I am gathering baseline data to diagnose where students need the most instruction at this point in time . Attached is our lesson plan that should already be noted in the student planner. My goal is to post this plan each week, so parents and students can check their progress in their Springboard workbooks. Students will be allowed to take their Springboard workbooks home to finish any activities they were unable to complete in class. Workbooks will be handed out Monday 9/19.
